  Cisco Networking Academy Program in Rwanda


Targeted Academy

  • National University of Rwanda

Enrollment Figures (% of females in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, as of 2001):

  • National University of Rwanda in the Department of Computer Sciences class: 11 students, 2 female
  • National University of Rwanda in the Computing Center (all-female class): 18 females enrolled in Semester 1

Recruitment & Retention Strategies

  • The all female Cisco class attracts women, and one of three of the Cisco instructors is female
  • NUR is free for most students, because they receive scholarships from the government.
  • NUR Academy staff is dedicated to gender equity and expansion of the program.
  • Job opportunities are a main attraction for all students.  

Recommendations

    • Continue to promote job opportunities.
    • Schedule additional time for females who may not have an IT background.
