  Cisco Networking Academy Program in the Philippines

Targeted Academies:

  • Philippine Science High School and Laguna State Polytechnic College.

Enrollment Figures (% of females in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, as of 2001):

  • Philippine Science High School: 11% and 50%
  • Laguna State Polytechnic College: Not Available

Recruitment & Retention Strategies

  • Scholarships offered by PSHS-Diliman allow female students to attend the school and thus access to the Networking Academy Program for free.
  • Offering the Cisco Networking Academy Program in institutions where many women are enrolled already, such as the Computer Department and the Computer Secretarial
  • The low cost of the Cisco course is an incentive in attracting low-income women to the course.
  • Recommendations
  • Raise awareness of the problem-solving and thinking tasks associated with networking.
  • Schedule a special orientation for females in the Academy program.
  • Address preference of male workers by networking employers.
  • Improve outreach to low-income women through advertisements.
  • Promote the Academy program to all students, not just those enrolled in Information Technology courses.
