Program Profile The Cisco Networking Academy Program has been established at 42 campuses of the Universidades Tecnológicas (hereafter referred to as UT) in Mexico. It has been established at UT campuses in rural areas throughout Mexico, including UT de Nezahualcoyotl, UT de Tabasco, UT de Tecamachalco (Puebla), UT de Campeche, UT de Cancun (Quintana Roo), UT de Izucar de Matamoros (Puebla), UT de la Selva/Chiapas, UT de Huejotzkingo (Puebla), UT Metropolitana/Yucatan, UT Regional del Sur/Yucatan, and UT de Puebla.
The young disadvantaged youth who attend the Networking Academy program will learn to design, build, and maintain computer networks, thus acquiring the necessary skills to compete in high-tech. jobs. The Cisco Networking Academy Program has been integrated into the two year university certificate degree program.
As part of this project, the Cisco Learning Institute (CLI) is providing scholarships for economically disadvantaged students, 70% of whom must be female. In order to qualify, students must demonstrate their financial need as well as their academic merit. This is an important component of the program since the majority of students are economically disadvantaged.
Students who enroll in the Networking Academy program will have access to UT’s internship placement program as well as the job bank developed by the Cisco Networking Academy Program/Mexico.
As a female student enrolled in the Networking Academy program states, “It was a great experience taking the Cisco Networking Academy Program. Since I took the course my knowledge and my vision that I had about the internet has changed. Besides, I had the opportunity of having practices and cases…It is very important since not only do you learn about theory but you also obtain practical knowledge.”
